Ashley Battersby

pro freeskier

Ashley was born to ski. She grew up in Chicago, and she’s the second of four children who all enjoy the same passion. At 18 months old, she was first put on skis and continued to evolve with and for the sport of Freeskiing. It wasn’t preferable skiing almost all of her youth life in the Midwest where flat landings and ice are nothing but all there is to work with. But from her small, 200ft vertical home hill in Wisconsin, she eventually had the fortitude and mental strength to turn her passion into a profession. She was regularly active throughout her childhood/teenage years and competed in other activities outside of skiing. Growing up, she was very involved in gymnastics, track, and cheerleading. Ash was also commonly seen sliding handrails and gapping stair sets in downtown Chicago on rollerblades. She agrees that her active youth and ability to adapt quickly to new activities has shaped her distinctive style of skiing.

Ashley was fortunate enough to leave the Windy City and surrounding Midwest ski resorts and move to Park City, Utah in 2002. During this time she was able to ski at least 50 or more days in the winter and later attended the Winter Sports School where the number of days on snow only increased. Skiing Park City has helped Ashley progress her ability of skiing as well as starting a career in skiing for her. She had received her first sponsor at a Big Air at the Canyons Resort and from then on she started making a name for herself as a young female freerider. Ashley now resides in Park City Utah lives out of her suitcase nine months out of the year for skiing. She transfered from Westminster College in 2007 and currently attends the University of Utah durning fall and summer semester. Although she switched majors from Aviation to Exercise Sports Science, she is only a test away from her Private Pilots license that she plans to get once she can find time away from skiing for a bit.

Give us a summary of who you are, what you like (besides skiing) and what your about.
“I’m 21 and I’m about loving and living DEEP! I have a ton of nick names- B, Tink, Smashly but my favorite is A-Bomb. My favorite color is lime green and I love anything bright or unique. I don’t dress to impress but for what I think my personality reflects what kind of person I am. I love Jesus Christ and believe in trying to live a spiritual life as well as loving others as you love yourself! I cant stand the unoriginal…dare to be different! I am in LOVE with animals especially cats and own 3 myself! I have one tattoo and 11 piercings! My favorite flowers are lilies and I could live off fruit smoothies! I am an air sign, which makes definite sense, ha! I love to be in the air on my skis and I love flying planes! I also LOVE taking pictures (which you’ll be able to tell from this site) and capturing that moment that you never want to forget!”

2009 SEASON
My 2009 season started off really well in the beginning, I had learned a ton of tricks on rails early season in Keystone for a few weeks. Then training for Dew Tour and X-Games I was doing a trick in the park I’ve been
doing since I was 12 and hit the knuckle of the jump and POP! A good Friend/Team Manager Nick Draxl had taken care of me right when it happened(Thank god for him!). I had thought my knee was only hyperextended for a few weeks since i was able to walk, run, lift weights and squats in the gym, until I had gotten an MRI and showed I need ACL surgery…again! For the second time, but it was the other one. I am now working on rehabbing it and will be judging various women’s slopestyle comps during the year including Aspen Open, Queens Cup Open, Kristi Leskenin’s Homecoming Comp, shooting lifestyles for my sponsors. coaching up at Windells Ski camp at Mt Hood this summer then going down to New Zealand right after to start training and getting my knee back and ready to slay it!
