Longworth Industries Awarded Prestigious ISO Manufacturing Accreditation and Cerfification

Longworth Industries, based in Candor, North Carolina, has recently been recognized by the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) for its quality management and manufacturing systems. The ISO awarded the base layer manufacturer ISO 9001/2000 Certification for its excellence in the design, development and implementation of a Quality Management System.

The ISO was established in 1947 in Switzerland to develop common international standards in many areas, including a Quality Management Systems (QMS). They evaluate and help companies of all sizes achieve standards of quality that are recognized and respected throughout the world. Today, members come from over 120 national standards bodies.

By achieving ISO certification, businesses have proven they have better process control, operations management, quality management and issue resolution. "Longworth has remained committed to keeping its manufacturing facilities in the United States," said Randy Black, president and CEO, Longworth Industries. "In order to be successful in the competitive outdoor market, we have to make sure that we have excellent systems in place to maintain quality, reduce costs and operate efficiently. This certification shows that we have done that, and are on the right track to continue to expand the company and keep it profitable into the future."

Receiving ISO Certification is a multi-step process, which requires a company to develop a quality management system to meet ISO standards, then conduct internal and external auditing to make sure the system is working. Companies who pass the accredited external ISO auditing achieve ISO accreditation and certification. "The ISO Certification is about a lot more than just the quality of the product that we manufacture," said Black. It's about the efficiency, customer service and cost reductions that enable us to convince our buyers that we have a dependable and well-run manufacturing process, to get them the products they need in a timely manner."

"By combining an ISO certified system that "works" with the 150 quality people we have at the Candor and West End facilities, Longworth is in a good position to be productive and profitable for many years—a benefit to both the company and the community."
